Gardenings and Musings
Posted by admin on Feb 15, 2011
Early Spring or late Winter is when my mind begins to wander, from gardenings to musings, daydreaming about what to plant and what a spectacular garden i might have this year. Optimistic gardeners like me generally over order seeds and cut out a larger swath than they will want to tend over the summer!
But this year I have taken it even one step further! I am planning to try sustainable gardening that will incorporate permaculture and other techniques for long term food production as well as to increase the productivity of my soil. The beauty this will add when i look out the door is just an added bonus!
I plan to add small outdoor garden rooms with trellises and plants creating the walls and ceilings. Ideally within a few years there will be hydroponic gardening as well as large and small garden ponds. Vegetables and flowers will complement one another both in beauty and to renourish the soil.
Welcome to the gardenings site, please check back regularly and help make this a great community!
William Moss on Sustainable Gardening
Posted by admin on Feb 12, 2012
William Moss defines sustainable practices as practices that do not create lasting harm to the environment. He suggests using your own food scraps to create compost and transfer your kitchen waste into garden nutrients. Organic pest control and fungus control should be OMRI® listed in order to keep toxins out of your garden and using organic fertilizers to increase your sustainability. Sustainable gardening practices not only have a positive effect on the environment, but also, says Moss, on your wallet. To find OMRI listed products visit http://www.saferbrand.com
